Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hounds days (1992-1993)

Status: Handful of songs may exist but doubt they will be released, ever.

Work on a second studio album from Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hounds started in Trinidad in 1993.

From the Trinidad recording sessions both Memphis and Good Enough were released on Izzy's solo album 117° in 1998.

When specifically asked about a "lost Ju Ju Hounds album" Izzy replied in a 2002 Q&A saying:

Nothing i know of is unreleased, 117 was new stuff back then.

When asked about "lost songs" in his 2005 Q&A with ChopAway.com Ju Ju Hounds bassist Jimmy Ashhurst replied:-

I don't know if there were any other complete songs...I do remember some ideas that were in varied states of completion. It was so long ago...even before the modern digital recording methods at our disposal nowadays. The stuff I left the studio with was all on cassette, and I haven't the foggiest idea of where that little bastard is now...

Later however, in a 2005 Q&A with ChopAway.com, the Ju Ju Hounds producer Eddie Ashworth talked about four songs recorded by the band that remain unreleased.

Eddie Ashworth wrote:

Not to open a can of worms-but to set the record straight, we did record a few songs that did not appear on the Ju Ju Hounds record or on any subsequent release:

+ Gotta Wanna Go
Great funky, almost New Orleans kind groove, cool lyrics, excellent playing by the Hounds. DEFINITELY the lost track that should have been on the album. The guys played it live off and on, so some of you might have heard it.

- Mile Away
Mile Away - Mid tempo barnburner with some nice Ian [McLagan] organ stuff.
- Silver & Gold
Silver and Gold - Acoustic song with a great melody and lyrics, also inexplicably left off the album and never released. I seem to recall that Izzy didn't feel like it measured up to the rest, but I remember it as being very strong.

- Outta Yer Blood
Outta Yer Blood - Very raw blues rocker with Izzy on slide. This is the song where Izzy sings something that sounds like "ju ju hound" and where the band and album name come from.

Plus a couple of short instrumental pieces.

All the other stuff recorded at that time that didn't make it to the record ended up on EP's or as B-sides.

Down By The Ocean + 9 (1995)

Status: 10 demos may still exist, Down By The Ocean being one of them.

In April, 1995, Duff calls me again: "I'm trying to compose new songs for the guys in GN'R. Come and give me a hand." [...] I'd left Guns but I said to myself: 'Well shit, after all, why not?' Duff and I wrote ten pieces in the space of a week. We even recorded them as demos."

In '95, Duff and me recorded songs for the band [GN'R]. We made a tape that went nowhere. Then, a couple of months ago I have a message on my answering machine: 'Yo! It's Axl, I need a copy of the songs that you did.' There was one called 'Down by the Ocean' or 'Down by the Sea', they may have used it.

The above were taken from two seperate interviews Izzy did in 2001. The song wasn't mentioned again until Axl Rose answered fan questions online in 2008. When provided with a list of rumored GNR song titles and asked to say which songs were real, Axl replied:-

Ides Of March, Oklahoma, Atlas Shrugged,  Oh My God, Silkworms , Down By The Ocean (Izzy), Leave Me Alone, Seven, The General, Thyme, Quick Song, Zodiac.

Most all titles subject to change w/out warning and r considered working titles.

Unreleased songs from the 117° days (1997-1998)

Status: Handful of songs may exist but doubt they will be released, ever.
A bootleg CD featuring 12 demos from 117° is already "out there" and features three unreleased songs.
+ One Day At A Time
+ Might As Well
+ Take It Slow

There was also the following report by MTV in June 1997:

Recently while overseas on a trip to Spain where he played on a couple of songs and a video for Spanish star Maria Sanchez, Slash also wrote and played with former Guns n' Roses mate Izzy Stradlin for a Stradlin solo album (very) tentatively scheduled for a release later this year.

9 months later in March 1998 117° was released, but Slash isn't on the album.
