» Misc - Why did the Ju Ju Hounds split up?
2009-05-26 08:07:23
Reading some old interviews it seems Jimmy Ashurst is pretty bitter about the ju ju hounds splitting up and mentions that he hasnt talked to Izzy since. I was just curious to know whether Izzy and Jimmys issues with each other, were what caused the original band to split up ?
Jimmy also talks about his drug problems at the time and i was wondering if this was the major factor in the hounds breaking up? As we all know, Izzy left GN'r to stay drug free and he probably didnt want to be around that same scene with Jimmy.
Response by IzzyDutch:
There's only one interview of Jimmy post JJH breakup, the one he did with this site and he isn't bitter in it at all.. doesn't hate or piss on Izzy, just says it's a shame they broke up. Drugs weren't the reason why the JJH broke up, if someone was doing drugs Izzy'd probably fired the guy. According to him in a nuthshell: Izzy got bored and left. Izzy himself said a few years later that he'd just got tired of the whole music scene and just went out, didn't make music for two years till '95.
If you read the posts/replies of '2fingaz' on beenafix.com, then you know what Jimmy thinks cause that's him.
Don't know why there are some people talking negative about him, nobody knows exactly what went down there but he's always been very cool to the fans, did a nice lenghty interview with us in 2005 and a video interview for the JJH anniversary in 2007.
Here's what happened as far as we know it from [various artists] interviews:
The JJH were in Trinidad in '93 recording the 2nd album (where Gotta Say, Memphis and Good Enough were recorded). Appearantly the label was pressuring the band to come up with some new stuff, didn't like them taking their time recording. At the time Slash ran into the JJH drummer Chalo and asked him if he'd seen Izzy. Chalo the responded he should ask Slash that cause Izzy went out during rehearsel to buy some cigarettes and never came back. According to Slash and Duff in previous interviews, Izzy doesn't like to be told what to do and his way with dealing of hassles is walking away from it.
According to Izzy himself, he said he was completely sick of the whole music business and wanted to get away from it. Was bored. Then in '95 he picked up the guitar again and started to play and have fun again cause those sessions with Duff were painless. Duff was on bass then, Rick still on guitar and Izzy heard that Taz left Reverend Horton Heat and he was a big fan of Taz so he hunted him down.
Nobody from us was there so we'll never know what went down really, the stuff above is just what we know from interviews.
Update: Jimmy did an interview in 2011 and said he was open to a reunion for a few shows. You can read the interview here.
